There has been much debate recently concerning the efficacy of statin drugs and their impact on individuals with high LDL cholesterol, particularly those over 60. A contentious study has posited that having high LDL cholesterol when one is over 60 could lead to a longer lifespan, does not augment the risk of cardiovascular disease, and that statins may not be as beneficial as once thought.
